SBA's Office of Veterans Business Development provides assistance to veterans seeking to start and develop small businesses. This is a great resource for lending programs, grants and information for those interested in starting a veteran-owned business.
In 1982, a group of Vietnam veterans came together to start a print quarterly entitled Intervention Magazine. Fast-forward 15 years to the rebirth of the magazine. The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), with its Auxiliaries, includes 2.4 million members in approximately 9,000 posts worldwide. The VFW administers its Veterans Service Program, monitors Congress, and often assists congressional staffs in preparing veterans' legislation. The VFW has more than 100 trained service officers to assist veterans or their dependents who may qualify for federal or state entitlements.

Veterans for Peace, established in 1985, includes men and women veterans of all eras and duty stations including from the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), World War II, the Korean, Vietnam, Gulf and current Iraq wars as well as other conflicts. "Our collective experience tells us wars are easy to start and hard to stop and that those hurt are often the innocent. Thus, other means of problem solving are necessary." Veterans For Peace is an official Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) represented at the UN.
